Matt in Africa: Stepping backwards

Falling: there is a moment, a split-second realisation, a clarity made up of two parts: the first part, preceding the second by an instant, is the sense that gravity has you in its grip and you are accelerating through space. The second is a perfect understanding you can do nothing about it. You wait for impact.

A family on their way to Greenland | part 5

Easter was just around the corner, and Tiniteqilaaq’s tiny supermarket opened its doors for a last few hours before the holidays began. All of the residents of Tiniteqilaaq had apparently had the same idea as us; Pilersuisoq was bursting at the seams and the sweet aisle was swarming with children.

Product of the week: TURBULENCE JACKET

Softshell jackets offer protection from all kinds of weather, making them them ideal for day trips or hikes lasting several days. This week, we would like to present a softshell which guarantees generous freedom of movement and is also comfortable to wear, thanks to the stretchy material used.

One family travels to Greenland | Part 4

During our stay in East Greenland we have seen more sun and perfect blue skies than we did all winter in central Germany! Robert dropped us and our luggage off at the Fjord where three sledges were already waiting to take us to Tiniteqilaq, a small village with just 120 inhabitants near the Sermilik Fjord.

Product of the week: EXHALATION VEST

If you’re the outdoorsy, sporty type, you will want to feel the sun on your skin as soon as possible. This demands a compromise in clothing before the weather gets warm enough to go out jogging or hiking in a T-shirt. Our product of the week, the lightweight EXHALATION VEST, provides exactly that.

One family travels to Greenland | Part 3

With 1,900 inhabitants, Tasiilaq has the most inhabitants of anywhere on the east coast. The village’s colourful wooden cottages are dotted on the mountainsides, pearls of colour on a monochrome landscape covered in ice and snow.

Taiwan impressions – expect the unexpected

Not too long ago I couldn't even point out the little island of Taiwan on a map. You hear about the country all the time, mostly in sentences referring to technology, but I learned very quickly that Taiwan is much more.

One family travels to Greenland | Part 2

Our children awoke on their first morning in Greenland at 4.30 a.m., just in time for the blue hour. One and a half hours later we stood all wrapped up outside the front door and could not believe how beautiful the view across the Kong Oscar Fjord was.

Cross-country ski tour

Sun, snow and not a cloud in the sky – what more could a fan of the outdoor life wish for? For me, this meant an opportunity for a ski tour from Hirschegg, a picture-perfect spot in the Kleinwalsertal valley, along the German-Austrian border to the Gottesacker plateau of the Hohen Ifen.

One family travels to Greenland

Our journey to the world’s regions and cultures most under threat from climate change continues. Last year we travelled through Lapland and this time our journey is taking us somewhere I have been dreaming of visiting for 20 years. I still can’t believe my dream is about to become a reality: we’re going to Greenland!
